About Spigamadre
Spigamadre means “mother ear of wheat” and it represents a tribute to the importance of cereals through time.
Started in 2017 as an artisan micro bakery, Spigamadre has later expanded to also include a spacious cafè/eatery. Our main goal is to craft handmade bread, pastries, and food from simple ingredients and with no additives, using methods of baking and cooking close to the traditional ones, to ensure that our products are wholesome and nourishing besides being also delicious — as they should be!
Spigamadre is a family-owned business started by Barbara Caracciolo. Barbara was born and raised in Rome, Italy, and moved to Sweden in 2004 to do research in the field of epidemiology of aging. During her many years of studies, she grew fond of baking sourdough bread and put into practice what she had learned through her upbringing in Italy and her interest in Italian gastronomy, which she had studied as a hobby since her early 20’s.
Soon it was clear that her passion could not stay confined to her own kitchen and so Spigamadre was born, now crafting quality bread, pastries and food daily for its affectionate customers in Årsta, and for other cafes, delis, and special events, all over Stockholm.
